Monthly Volunteer Connect

In an effort to provide undergraduate FHS students with more leadership opportunities, the Health Sciences Undergraduate Student Union (HSUSU) will be featuring a new volunteer opportunity on the first Friday of every month to help students explore the countless volunteer opportunities that are available to them with the intention of helping them connect with their communities.

Pacific Spirit Community Health Centre

The Pacific Spirit Community Health Centre is one of Vancouver Coastal Health’s community health centres (CHC) which offers child immunization clinics. Volunteers work with the CHC program assistants and public health nurses in registering and distributing materials to parents and caregivers among other responsibilities.

The British Columbia Public Advisory Network’s (BC-PAN) public advisors bring the public voice and perspective to the network by providing feedback on important issues related to healthcare regulation.

SFU Food Pantry

The SFU Food Pantry is an entirely volunteer-run program to support SFU’s food insecure student population with emergency top-up food and hygiene supplies.

St. John Ambulance

Well-trained and well-equipped, St. John Ambulance Medical First Response volunteers are at countless events (sporting, cultural, musical, etc…) to provide basic and advanced care when emergencies occur.

BC Children’s hospital

The auxiliary at BC Children’s Hospital is a non-profit and membership organization that has many different initiatives that aim to benefit both the BC Children’s Hospital and the community. The Auxiliary Board of Directors liaises with the department of Volunteer Resources.

FHS Peer Educator Program

Peer educators have the opportunity to tutor students who drop-in at weekly workshops and support them through other activities in these courses, which gaining new skills around teaching.

Canadian red CrOSS

Clients services volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross Equipment Loan Program (HELP) provide administrative support like answering phone calls and coordinating help equipment loans and returns.

SFSS WOmen’s centre

There are various volunteer positions available within the SFSS Women’s Centre ranging from education and outreach to lounge care. The SFSS Women’s Centre is a department of the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) and is a space that is dedicated to providing education and services to all visitors, including allies.

NaloxHome

NaloxHome is a non-profit organization aimed at educating youth on BC’s overdose crisis through speaker presentations. NaloxHome volunteers have the opportunity to take on various roles including youth educator, social media assistance and strategic partnerships.

The Fraser Health Crisis Line is recruiting volunteers to provide assistance to people in the region who are experiencing emotional distress.
