SFU Student Union Conference Funding

The Student Union (SU) prioritizes promoting travel and conferences broadly, ensuring that students have access to these opportunities for academic and professional growth. The SU Conference Funding campaign aims to provide financial assistance for individual students attending conferences.

Students interested in applying for travel and conference funding must follow a structured process. Eligibility extends to any health science major, minor, or student currently enrolled in a health science class. The application process begins with:

  • Step One - emailing HSUSU at hsusu.exec@gmail.com with a request for funding.

  • Step Two - requires attending an HSUSU meeting, where applicants must prepare a speech to motivate the team regarding the necessity of their funding request.

  • Step Three - involves seeking approval at the meeting, ensuring that the secretary includes the applicant’s full name in the meeting minutes.

  • Step Four - requires submitting the SFSS Travel/Conference application through the online portal at [SFSS Portal](https://go.sfss.ca/unions/26/info).

  • Step Five - after attending the conference, students must submit original receipts for travel expenses or registration fees. These receipts should be attached to a Check Requisition Form and submitted to the Student Centre for reimbursement. The SFSS will notify applicants via email when their check is ready for pickup. It is crucial to follow these steps in order, as retroactive applications will not be approved.

This campaign is essential because it provides financial support for students who wish to attend conferences but may face economic barriers. By offering funding, the initiative ensures that more students can participate in valuable academic and professional development opportunities.

The funding is available to individual students attending a conference, including any member of the SU or FSU. This includes students majoring or minoring in health sciences, as well as those enrolled in at least one class within the faculty. The campaign operates on a semesterly basis, ensuring continuous access to funding throughout the academic year.
